Often gritty, sometimes quite funny, always resolute…men and women who wear the badge of law enforcement never have a “routine shift.”  These are the stories behind the scenes and on the scene, captured by Stratis Skoufalos throughout his 24 years as a big-city cop.

“Riveting! While reading these stories I actually felt I was right alongside the author experiencing exactly what he did.  Surreal, challenging, and true to life.”

—William Colarulo, Police Superintendent  (Ret.);Police Chief Inspector (Ret.), Philadelphia Police

Stratis Skoufalos spent twenty-four years as a Philadelphia police officer, most of them on street patrol, retiring as a lieutenant. His background before that career includes his service in the US Army, 1966-1968, where he was an MP (military police).

Experiences as a Police Academy Instructor, as well as supervisory roles in Internal Affairs, Dignitary Protection, and Recruit Background Investigations broadened his career and his repertoire of stories, many of which he recorded as journal notes at the time. He also served as Executive Officer for the Deputy Commissioner for Administration and Training.

Skoufalos received numerous police commendations and community awards, including membership in the Chapel of the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor. After retiring from the department, he served as Security Director at several universities in the Philadelphia area.

He earned his B.A. in English from LaSalle University where he was recognized as the Outstanding Senior in English. He went on to earn an M.Ed. from Temple University.

With his wife, Monica, he relocated to Florida in 2003, where he taught middle school Reading and high school Criminal Justice. In 2008, he was recruited back to Philadelphia to join the management team which created the Drexel University Police Department.

Retired, but beginning a new venture as an author, he currently lives in Florida with his wife. Both are passionate about animals, especially dogs.
