Authors: Is your book lonely? You can give it a COMPANION, and one easy option is to create a Companion Workbook. (Other companion products you could create include an audiobook, a journal with book excerpts as writing prompts, a coloring/activity book, a series of e-books, a speech or presentation, etc.)
Here is an example that has gotten excellent reviews (my co-author and I knew that a workbook would be a real difference-maker for our readers who wanted to actually implement our material and get results):
The cover shown matches the book (our target readers are seniors, but the material applies to just about everyone). Here is the introduction, and below it you’ll find one of my favorite pages in the workbook—THIS IS FOR YOU. No matter your current fitness level, lifestyle, or health goals, If you identify one new daily action for each of the five categories, you will very quickly notice an improvement in your well-being, guaranteed!
Enjoy!
Seniors naturally have different daily activities, responsibilities, and desires than those in their early career-building or family-raising years. We know changes are happening, yet we often forget to make a new game plan, one that takes into account the way things look at half-time and how we want the third and fourth quarters to play out. Without an updated game plan, we’re bound to fumble around and weaken our line of defense against—well, getting old.
We call ourselves Leaner Meaner Seniors because we believe that “aging” is not the same as “getting old.” Of course, we’ll age and add candles to our birthday cake, but we choose to stay young at heart and strong in our attitude of living with gusto!
This companion workbook to our best-selling book, Leaner Meaner Senior Game Plan, will help you anchor what you find educational and motivating from reading the book. Here, you will get application and implementation help. You’ll have the opportunity to make notes, take self-assessments to monitor your progress, create daily activity plans, and answer questions designed to provoke thought and encourage deeper insights into the Leaner Meaner Senior™ material.
Keep your Leaner Meaner Senior Game Plan book handy as you use this workbook, so that you can re-read sections that apply to your efforts to incorporate healthier habits into your lifestyle. Your book and workbook are companions, so use them together to gain the most benefit for yourself.
You will notice an acceleration of your fitness improvement, and you’ll discover an increased emotional strength, discipline, and confidence.
Beyond what the book teaches, we want you to be empowered with easy-to-use tools and a super strong mindset to help you start your game plan, stick with it, and reap the many, many benefits of being a Leaner Meaner Senior™. You have everything you need—it’s up to you to make this work for you (and we are pulling for you every step of the way!).

Top 5 Leaner Meaner Senior™ Healthy Habits
- Daily Activity: exercising at least 30 minutes every day
- Social Connection: activities with others (volunteer work, pickleball, walking buddies, etc.)
- Restoration: sufficient sleep to feel renewed; blocks of time to unplug and relax
- Mindful eating: keep healthy foods handy and eat with nourishing your body in mind
- Soul food: meditation or tai chi and/or yoga; bible study or whatever feeds your soul
Identify one activity in each of the five categories to add to your daily schedule.
Write down a “Next Action” for each of the five, choosing a small, easy-to-win specific activity, such as “Re-stock my snack basket with almonds and dried apples.” Or, “Ask Madelyn to teach me to play pickleball.” Keep your new Healthy Habits list in a place you can’t help but see it, as you’ll need the reminder until your new activities become automatic habits (which they will if you stick with them for just a few weeks!). You’re worth it!
